Obituary of Larry J. Andrus of Ucon, Idaho (Jane Munday)
Larry J. Andrus of Ucon, Idaho passed away in April of 2008. His obituary is reprinted here. He is descended from Jane Munday through her son Heber Andrus and then Todd W. Andrus. Heber settled with his brother, Robert, in Ucon, Idaho. Ucon is about 8 miles north of Idaho Falls. Many members of both families still ive in the area.
Larry Joel Andrus, 71, of Ucon, passed away April 4, 2008, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center of lung disease. He was born May 10, 1936, In Idaho Falls to Todd Woodruff Andrus and Hortense Naomi Hansen Andrus. He grew up in Ucon, where he attended school and graduated from Bonneville High School. He went on to attend Ricks College, BYU and Utah State University.
Larry served his country in the Idaho National Guard.
On September 14, 1961, Larry married Shirley Gruvman in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Together, they had six children. He lived in Ucon his entire life. He owned his own trucking business, Larry J. Andrus and Sons Coal and Grain. For the last 14 years, he worked for Doug Andrus Distributing.
Larry was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served a LDS Mission to the British Isles. He was in the Bishopric in the Ucon First Ward and on the High Council of the Ucon Stake; he held many other church callings, as well.
Larry sang in various quartets all his life. He was in school musicals and enjoyed singing with his sons. He loved to spend time with his family and was the most loving man to his children and grandchildren. Larry was known throughout the valley for his fairness and integrity. People loved to associate and visit with him.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley Andrus of Ucon; son, Joel (Rachel) Andrus of Ucon, daughter, LaNae (Dennis) Porter of Idaho Falls; sons, Todd (Tani) Andrus of Hyrum, Utah, and Jon (Melinda) Andrus and Jason (Shelley) Andrus, both of Ucon; daughter, Judy (McKay) Lowder of Aberdeen; brother, Gary (Margaret) Andrus of Idaho Falls; sister, Corinne (Ken) Doty of Portland, Ore.; and 21 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Mona Smith.
Funeral Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 9th, at the Ucon LDS Ward, 10854 N. 41st East, with Bishop Brad Carlson officiating. The family will visit with friends from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Wood Funeral Home, 273 N. Ridge Ave., and for one hour Wednesday before services at the church.
