Sybil was the first child of Ruluf Andress and Azuba Smith. She was born 23 April 1796. Her birthplace is uncertain; she may have been born in Vermont or Essex County, New York.

Sybil was married four times. She outlived each of her husbands. Sybil had four children by her second husband, Thomas Squires: Sophronia, Philo, James, and Charlotte.

Sybil died 5 May 1867, in Monona, Clayton County, Iowa at the age of 71. She is reported to be buried in the local cemetery, but no stone can be found.
