Past Reunions (1905-2003)

From 1905 to 1966 reports of the the Milo Andrus family reunions were recorded in a notebook. Below are selections from that notebook.The notebook is now in the possession of Hyrum L. Andrus (Jane Munday wife line) of Alpine, Utah. After 1966, reunion minutes were published in the Andrus Recorder.

1948 Reunion – Ucon, Idaho [Click to enlarge.]


1905

  • The first reunion was held October 9, 1905, and was overseen by Milo, Jr. (son of Milo and 2nd wife Sarah Ann Miles).

1926 — Salt Lake City, Utah

  • Reunion of the Andrus family, held at Liberty Park, Salt Lake City, June 14th, 1926 for the purpose of forming a family organization.
  • At 11:30 a meeting was called to order by Milo Andrus.
  • Singing, “We Thank Thee O God for a Prophet,”
  • Prayer by F.D. Brinton.
  • Mrs. Jeanette S. Lunt from the Geneological Society then addressed the meeting. She explained the purpose of a family organization and the duties of the officers, also related some faith promoting incidents relative to Temple Work.
  • Officers were then elected as follows: President William Andrus, 1st Vice President (Chairman of Temple Committee) Charles Andrus, 2nd Vice President (Chairman of Geneological Committee) George B. Andrus, 3rd Vice President (Chairman of the Historical and Social Committee) Archie Andrus, and Secretary and Treasurer Alive B. Casto.
  • Milo Andrus then spoke of the desirability of holding Family Reunions and suggested that a time and place be decided upon of the next meeting. Robert Andrus motioned that we meet at Liberty Park. The motion was carried. Hyrum Andrus motioned that we meet the same time.
  • William Andrus stated that he should like to be informed of his duties, and responsibilities and expressed a willingness to fill the office to the best of his ability.
  • Milo Andrus then gave some advice to the family about marriage and the keeping of family records. Advised the family to live and bring respect to the family name.
  • Meeting adjorned and the remainder of the day was spent in a social way
  • There were 8 children and 21 grandchildren of Milo Andrus present.

1927

  • Roll call showed the following attendance: Jane Daily 16, sarah Ann 35, Lucy Loomis 41, Adeline Alexander 2, Mary Ann Webster 4, Jane Mundy 23, Ann Brooks 17, Margaret Boyce 5, Francine Tuttle 6, Emma Covert 4. Total = 153.
  • Laverne McCombs was oldest daughter present. Milo Andrus was oldest son present. Nome Andrus oldest descendant. Three month old daughter of Henry Andrus, youngest descendent present.

1928 — Holladay, Utah

  • Reunion held June 11, 1928
  • Attendance: 108

1929 — Draper, Utah

  • 134 present

1931 (?) — St. George, Utah

  • Reunion held unknown year Aug 29-30.
  • August 29: Registration took place at the James (M.L. Andrus) house. Free show for all at the Wadsworth Theatre at 4:00p.m. Luncheon at the M.L. or Aunt Nonee Andrus home immediately after the show. Dancing at Open Air Pavilion, back of College building 9:00 p.m.
  • August 30: Business and program. Program at Wadsworth Theatre from 10-11 a.m. Business meeting from 11-12:00.

1934 — Provo, Utah

  • Reunion held at Vivian Park, Provo Canyon July 27-28, 1934
  • 150 present
  • It was decided to form an insurance company. One rep from each of ten families to act as board member/directors. (This organization to also act as the family reunion group.)

1936 (?) — Idaho Falls, Idaho

  • Unknown year (about 1936: they are discussing the 1937 reunion)
  • Roll call showed a total attendance of 170. 84 of the Jane Mundy family; 42 Margaret Boyce; 22 Jane Daley; 12 Emma Covert; 6 Lucy Loomis Tuttle; 4 Sarah Ann Miles; and 1 Mary Ann Webster.

1937

  • June 14, 1937
  • Attendance: Jane Munday 34; Margaret Boyce 16; Jane Daley 8; Emma Covert 15; Lucy Loomis 12; Mary “Ann Webster 6; Adeline Alexander 5; Ann Brooks 27; Francine Tuttle 4; Sarah Ann Miles 70. Total 198
  • Leslie Andrus, Chairman of the Genealogical Committee, asked that a fund be created for research work, this fund to be kept separate from the family account.
  • Minnie Fisher Ellsworth, discussed the results of her research work as it pertained to Milo Andrus line, also the Jane Daley line.
  • Leslie Andrus made a motion that each family head pay $5.00 annually for research work. $2.50 for the Milo Andrus line and $2.50 to the wife line. Motion carried.

1938 — Logan, Utah

  • As the reunions had been discontinued for some time through the war years a temporary committee had gotten together to try to create interest and establish regular reunions as we had enjoyed before.
